The Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fishing and Feeding of Mexican Federal Government, through the National Commission of Aquaculture and Fishing (CONAPESCA) promote the sustainable exploitation of marine resources and contribute with the conservation of them.
CONAPESCA elaborate and publish the Mexican Official Standards for the regulation of all fisheries, including the regulation for the exploitation of those fisheries, areas and fishing gear restrictions, and rules for owners of fishing permits or authorizations and for anybody who catch some aquatic species, besides other obligatory rules.
CONAPESCA helps not only to promote the conservation of marine species, also to benefit all commercial and sport-reacreative fishermen and reduce the conflicts among them.
Besides, the CONAPESCA builds the necessary infrastructure to develop the aquaculture and fishing activities.
In addition, CONAPESCA has strong relationships with national, international and regional investigation organizations, worried for the marine resources, such as the Latinamerican Organization for the Fishing Development (OLDEPESCA), the International Union for the Nature Conservation (UICN); the Permanent South Pacific Commission (CPPS), the Organization of Fishing and Aquaculture Sector of Central America Isthus (OSPESCA) and the Interamerican Tropical Tuna Commission (CIAT).
For the Federal Mexican Government, the CONAPESCA is a strategic tool for taking care of our natural resources and to avoid the overexplotation of marine species.
Through the General Fishing and Aquaculture Law, the CONAPESCA look for the efficient regulation and to put in order the fisheries, to benefit all the aquaculture and fishing sector. Based on this law, the CONAPESCA sanction the illegal fishing actions, through inspection and surveillance teamworks.
